True democracy cannot flourish in isolation; it thrives on diversity, inclusion, and the equal participation of all citizens.

Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) to his office at the National Assembly Library. Led by their dynamic President, Mrs. Irene Awunah-Ikyegh, the visit provided a brilliant platform to discuss the evolving landscape of civic engagement in our nation.

The Power of Inclusive Governance

The conversation was deeply insightful. It dove into the core pillars of democratic inclusion, civic participation, and the absolutely essential role that women must play in governance and national development.

He asserted that throughout his career in public service, he firmly believed that sustainable progress is impossible when a significant portion of our population is left on the sidelines of decision-making. Women are not just participants in the democratic process; they are catalysts for real, structural change.

“We must continue to build an informed, inclusive, and participatory democracy where every voice is heard and every vote is understood,” says Rt. Hon. Nwawuba.

A Shared Vision for Tomorrow

Nwawuba commended Mrs. Irene Awunah-Ikyegh and the entire leadership of NILOWV for their relentless commitment to voter education and civic responsibility. “Their grassroots efforts are exactly what Nigeria needs to build a more conscious electorate,” he said.

“I deeply appreciate their visit, and I am genuinely looking forward to future opportunities for collaboration. Together, we can utilize the resources of the National Assembly Library and the passion of civic advocates to build a more equitable political future for our country,” he added.
